Gwyneth Paltrow Had Postpartum Depression: Do You?

Gwyneth's husband identified her postpartum depression symptoms.

Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow seems like she’s got the perfect GOOP-filled life, but turns out she’s human just like the rest of us. Her  husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, suggested that she was suffering from postpartum depression after the birth of her second child Moses in April 2006. She unfortunately was.

Postpartum depression ranges from moderate to severe depression that can occur anytime between 0-12 months after birth of your child. Most cases appear and go away within the first three months after birth.

Here are some of the symptoms of postpartum depression:

  1. Inability to care for yourself or your baby.
  2. Disinterest in your baby.
  3. Fears you may harm your baby.
  4. Negative feelings towards your baby.
  5. Worrying excessively about your baby.
  6. Fear of being alone with your baby.
  7. Lack of energy.
  8. Loss of interest in most activities.
  9. Loss of concentration or feeling distracted.
  10. Feelings of disconnection with others and loneliness.
  11. Feeling of guilt or not being good enough.
  12. Suicidal thoughts.
  13. Trouble sleeping.
  14. Inability to function at work or home.
  15. Changes in appetite.
  16. Anxiety or irritability.

Please talk to your doctor if you are feeling any of these symptoms. If you are feeling suicidal or like you may harm your baby, go to the ER now!

And whatever you do, don’t eat your placenta in an attempt to ward off postpartum depression like Mad Men actress January Jones did. Read more about her support for medical quackery: http://doctormichele.com/january-jones-eats-her-placenta-should-you
